This is a robust and well-made piece. Our kitten was scratching our couch, and this was the perfect diversion. She’s drawn to the hanging toys and loves the large scratching area. I can’t rave enough about how great it is.

This rectangular design gives them the corners they crave, and now they’re all over it. Who knew corners were their kryptonite? My male cat also loves playing with the ball hidden near the base. He’s been playing with it every day like a kitten.

This post has survived the full-on assault of three cats for 18 months. The only minor issue is that the ball on top and the one in the hole broke off a month in. Bought my first post in October 2022 and finally reordered in April 2023.

This just happened: I have the post in a sunroom outside, and suddenly I hear a cat screaming. I rushed over to find the elastic cord for the top fuzzy ball wrapped tightly around her paw, leaving her hanging! She’s 12" nose to tail. I had to use a pocket knife to cut the cord and free her. I’ve since removed both balls. If this had happened at night when I couldn’t hear her, she might have lost part of her paw. I didn’t get a good look at how the cord became so tightly wrapped; it was too frantic. The post seemed fine a week ago, and I’ve mounted it on a larger, heavier base to prevent tipping (made of two layers of 3/4" MDF board, 2.5 ft x 2.5 ft). Scratching posts inevitably need replacement due to constant use. It’s easy enough with one-bolt mounting. The bolt is M8 x 1.25 metric, so if the one provided isn’t long enough, you can find longer ones at a bolt depot online. Despite everything, the post is a keeper now that the balls are removed. It’s about 1.5 inches wider in both directions than the old post I had from a local pet store a year ago, which the cats destroyed over time. It does the job, but definitely get rid of those balls! Maybe fewer people have reported issues because my setup with the larger, heavier base prevents tipping. If the cat had been caught with the base as it came, I’m sure it would have tipped over, and she wouldn’t have been left hanging. That elastic cord acted like a tourniquet, so she might have still lost her paw even if it had tipped over and no one was around to help.

Charlie was smitten with this scratcher the moment I put it together. It was a cinch to assemble and is sturdy and tall enough for my 12-pound cat. He’s especially fond of the holes in the lower section, as he enjoys the thrill of hunting the ball hidden inside. He even sits atop it with his paws hanging over the edge, scratching while he’s upside down—so amusing!

One suggestion for the manufacturer: countersink the wood for the screws at the bottom to avoid scratching the floor. I’ve covered it with tape to prevent damage.

Purchased the large size for my 14-pound holy terror. It was easy to assemble by myself. The post is solid, and my cat took to it right away (rubbed a bit of catnip on it and placed it next to her old scratcher). My only issue is with the base: even on carpet, if she pulls on the post while scratching, it wobbles and threatens to tip over. She mainly uses the carpeted base now. I might try adding a weight to the base for stability.

After three weeks, so far, so good.

I bought this with the hope that he might actually use it. Not only does he avoid it, but unlike all the other things he ignores, this one terrifies him. He stayed hidden in my room for two days. I initially thought he was ill until I saw him sneaking past me while I was between him and the post. Maybe it’s the smell from the manufacturing process, the height, or some other detail. I gave it 3 stars, hoping my cat is just unusually picky, but for me, it’s more like a 1-star item. On the plus side, it arrived in good condition and was super easy to assemble. Perhaps your cat will like it. Mine does not.
